Bullying is bad for everyone.
February 2009
Bullying is repeated, harmful behaviour against a victim. A bully hurts others by pushing, shoving, and name-calling. Bullying is also not letting someone play or be part of a group, making fun of and laughing at someone, saying mean things to or about someone, threatening someone, or taking something away from him or her.
If you are being bullied, here are Elmer’s Seven Rules to follow:
- Be confident. Bullies don’t like people who are afraid.
- Walk away, get help!
- If you are being bullied, tell a friend, teacher or parent.
- Be a friend, violence is never a good response.
- Always stay in places known to be safe.
- If you see someone being bullied, tell someone.
- Always treat others the way you want to be treated.
If a friend is being bullied, make sure to tell a parent or a teacher. If you are afraid this might make you the next victim, get together with some other friends and report as a group.
Remember that it is NOT your fault! Nothing is wrong with you. You don’t deserve to be bullied. Get involved in something positive, such as joining a team or a club. Doing something you are good at will give you confidence and make you feel good about yourself.
