Have your parents or a guardian walk the path to school with you, until you are comfortable enough to walk to school and back on your own. Walking with a friend to school is also a good idea. If someone gets hurt, the other one will be able to run for help.
Important safety tips to remember:
- Choose one path to school, and always take that route.
- Don’t stop to play, or talk with strangers.
- If you are at a traffic light, remember to continue across the street if the sign turns to “Don’t Walk” while you are crossing.
- You should cross the street only at corners or pedestrian crosswalks. (Don’t cross in the middle of the street)
- Do not cross the street from between parked cars.
